Last night I met with the lovely Annalee from Hobart Fitness Training.
Their venue is tucked away in Mathers Lane providing complete privacy in the heart of the Hobart CBD.
While I was there the ladies started arriving for the 5:30pm group fitness class.
It says a lot about a fitness centre when the participants turn up smiling, happy and raring to go. It was obvious the ladies had all become great friends throughout their fitness journey and were all busy catching up when trainer, Dan, was ready to begin.
While the group got stuck into their session of pull ups, goblet squats, fit ball sit ups and push ups I sat down with owner, Annalee Brumby to find out more about Hobart Fitness Training.
Tell us about Hobart Fitness Training?
“At Hobart Fitness Training we are personal training specialists. The time of rocking up to the gym on your own with no direction is past and very few clients succeed under this model. Our clients want and need to feel as though they belong and they also very much need some accountability …. and a little bit of no BS education as well. Therefore we purely focus on facilitating Small Group and Individual/Private Personal Training, along with other specialist niche programs to deliver the hands on support our clients demand. We provide the right type of scientifically based exercise and simple but effective eating principles for goal driven clients who wish to accelerate their results with the support from a trainer, or clients who haven’t been successful achieving their goals in a traditional gym setting. You can train with us in one of our small groups in the CBD, Howrah or Glenorchy, have a mobile personal trainer come to you or train with us in a private fully, equipped studio setting.”
What makes you different to a traditional gym setting?
“We offer all our services in a boutique, private studio space or one on one mobile training setting, and we are dogged in our determination to deliver a client experience that is a little bit special and fun via our comprehensive Client Service Program. We are highly community focused and heavily promote the social aspect of training. We also stay in touch with our clients regularly through various mediums and offer an exclusive, first class client experience that keeps clients committed and that ultimately delivers results.”
How did Hobart Fitness Training start?
“Hobart Fitness Training started many years ago in my head! Financially though I wasn’t in a position to get it up and running until late 2013 and it was kind of a now or never thing. Sometimes there never is a right time to do something, you just have to front up and have a go. After seeing many amazing personal trainers leave the industry due to the overwhelm of trying to run a business single-handedly, the idea really was to support talented trainers to provide a superior service to their clients by partnering with them as a sales, marketing and client support person, so that they could just focus on looking after their clients. So that’s what we do. Lots of Trainers I meet adore this model because they just love training people…they were never expecting to have to spend hours in front of a computer.”
What made you get into the health & fitness industry?
“In this day and age where staying fit and healthy is such a challenge I feel privileged to be a part of this amazing industry. I have been involved in the fitness industry since the age of 18 when I first discovered my passion for strength training as a young dancer. Professionally, I started my career in 2002 in Melbourne working as a sales consultant at Fernwood Fitness in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. My passion for people, health and fitness quickly helped me move into many roles within the industry in Victoria including Centre Manager, Marketing and Sales Manager, Gym Instructor, Group Exercise Instructor, Personal Trainer, Business & Sales Coach. Then really, my coaching skills became my forte and I have since focused on developing this side of my career, with an interest and skill in working on motivation, behavioral change and mindset. Now as a mum in her forties, I know how hard it can be to make time to eat well and exercise but I still believe that how we feel physically has such a dramatic effect on our lives, that it’s an absolute must to keep moving, keeping striving.”
What’s your number 1 health & fitness tip?
“The only time you ever fail is when you stop. Just don’t stop. Ever. Always keep trying to take control of your lifestyle or it will control you. Make it a determined priority to eat nutritious food and get some exercise, day after day, year after year…. think positive thoughts about yourself and your life and the results will pay off big time.”
